1Planet Champions are committed to addressing the critically important issue of climate change. With the just released 2018 report from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) highlighting the devastating global consequences if the world keeps on its current warming path, climate champions are urgently needed at all levels in government and the private sector.
U.S. Senator Tim Kaine
Senator Tim Kaine (D-Virginia) is a longtime supporter of clean energy and believes the U.S. should be an international leader on climate change. He supports investing in renewable energy, including offshore wind and solar. Sen. Kaine opposed an offshore drilling proposal by the Administration and has been a leader on efforts to combat sea level rise and flooding in Hampton Roads, home to the world’s largest naval base.
U.S. Representative Don Beyer
Representative Don Beyer (D-Virginia’s 8th District), one of the leading voices on climate in Congress, is a member of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) and co-chair of the Safe Climate Caucus, a group of Representatives committed to speaking out about climate change. Representative Beyer regularly calls out the Administration on its anti-climate and anti-environment policies and, earlier this year, co-authored the “Healthy Climate and Family Security Act,” which is a “cap and dividend” approach to carbon pollution.
